We expect the AGM to run as it has in past years, including an update from MCFT on current operations, as well as updates from the NBFTA Executive and Committees.

There will be a brief update on Right to Practice discussions currently being had by NBFTA and ARPFNB representatives. Regarding this specifically we expect there to be a joint ARPFNB-NBFTA question and answer session in early May.

To attend the AGM, you must have your membership paid in full (or a commitment from your employer that the membership will be paid for those in a group situation).  Most should have received an invoice from the Treasurer, Chris Finnamore, if you have not received an invoice, please contact Chris at ckfinnamore@rogers.com .  To pay your membership, an e-transfer can be sent to: nbftatreasurer@gmail.com or cheque can be mailed to: New Brunswick Forest Technicians Association,1350 Regent Street, Fredericton, NB E3C 2G6

NBFTA AGM Postponed until further notice

Hi All,

The NBFTA AGM scheduled to take place in Moncton on April 2nd has been postponed until after the COVID-19 situation has been resolved. That could mean the canceling for the year completely or possibly holding an event later in the spring or summer.

It should be noted, that as expected the Canadian Woodlands Forum Spring Meeting has been canceled as well. This was to take place on April 1st and 2nd, 2020. The below message was shared by the CWF organizers:

CWF Spring Meeting Cancelled Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

Over the last 25 years, the CWF spring meeting has become recognized as one of the largest meetings of forestry professionals in Atlantic Canada; an annual event not to be missed. The line-up of speakers and timely topics for this year’s program was second to none, along with the other elements of the meeting such as the awards program and Log a Load for Kids fund raiser.

However, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, the safety and health of our delegates, speakers, and suppliers comes first. To this end, the Canadian Woodlands Forum has hereby cancelled the 2020 spring meeting scheduled for April 1-2, 2020. As disappointing and unprecedented that this decision is, it is necessary to protect our members and comply with recommendations from our Public Health authorities throughout the region.

Thanks to all of our delegates, speakers and sponsors who prepared for the spring meeting. The CWF will continue to work on your behalf throughout 2020; we wish you and your families all the best during this period of unprecedented times.

Thank you and be safe.

  • Welcoming Remarks and Canadian Woodlands Forum Update.
    Peter Robichaud, Canadian Woodlands Forum

  • Climate Change in New Brunswick: Implications of Major Weather Events on Forest Operations. Brandon Love, Climate Change Secretariat

  • Feature Presentation: The Vulnerability of Roads and Infrastructure in a Changing Climate. Mark Partington, FPInnovations

Forest roads are a critical component of Atlantic Canada’s forest management activities, community and recreational access, and tourism. Our climate has already experienced change and according to forecasts, we can expect that in the coming decades, damaging storms, exceeding what our roads can handle, will occur more often, will be stronger, and will last longer – not to mention the seasonal changes that will also occur, such as warmer winters and drier summers.

These changes are expected to have significant impacts on forest road management, such as restrictions on seasonal transportation schedules, increased demands on water crossing infrastructure, and decreased ability to utilize winter (frozen) roads. This presentation will discuss how climate change will impact forest roads, how to assess these risks and general approaches to implement adaptation options.

  • Lightning Round: Updates on new technologies and products from our equipment suppliers.
  • Climate Change Adaptation; Tools and Resources.
Susannah Banks, NB Federation of Woodlot Owners.
