ARPFNB Set to vote on Right to Practice

The Association of Professional Foresters of New Brunswick have sent a cover letter and a copy of the proposed Act to its membership as a precursor to a to an online vote scheduled to run from February 21, 2011 – March 4th, 2011.
From the cover letter:
On February 21st , you will receive an email from ClearPicture, a company from Nova Scotia that will conduct a fair and anonymous electronic voting procedure. Please follow the instructions and respect the deadlines indicated. Voting will open on February 21st and close March 4th, 2011. If the Association does not have an email address for you, then you will have received this notice and instructions for voting by post mail.
For years the NBFTA Executive has been working on Right-to-Practice on behalf of Technicians and Technologists working in New Brunswick. Based on a membership vote, at a Nov 2009 emergency meeting, the Executive was giving a clear mandate on how to proceed with RTP. Our mandate was lost for two reasons:
1 – There are no letters of support from stakeholders.
2 – The definition of forestry in the final draft of the Act has changed.
We, as an organization, need to decide what is best for New Brunswick Forests and what is best for Forest Technicians and Technologists.
I have attached the cover letter and French and English versions of the final draft of the Act. This is required reading for anyone who wants to see how this document, if becomes legislation, will affect your profession.
As I outlined in my previous blog post you really need to be involved in this process. We do not want the decisions of a few influencing the lives of so many so get involved and show up at our AGM on April 7th, 2011 at 1PM in Moncton.

The following is an email that I just sent to people on my contact list that I know are Forest Technicians or Technologists. Feel free to copy it and forward it.

You are receiving this email because at one time or another we have met or talked. I am President of the New Brunswick Forest Technicians Association. On April 7th, 2011 we are having our AGM in Moncton, NB at the Ramada Crystal Palace. That day will be the single most important day in your professional career because a vote will take place that will decide on whether the NBFTA supports Right to Practice Legislation.
Please take the time to familiarize yourself with this proposed legislation. It will be a foundation on which your day-to-day working lives with be based on. Please go to http://www.nbfta.org/2011/02/18/arpfnb-set-to-vote-on-right-to-practice/ and download copies of the ACT and a cover letter that the ARPFNB sent to its members as part of a precursor to a later February, early March vote.
This email is something that I would not do unless I thought it was necessary. I ask each and every one of you receiving this email to forward this to any Forest Technicians or Forest Technologists that you know and challenge them to forward it to two more.
We need to get the word out. Whether you are a member of our organization or not, you are invited to attend our AGM. You can sit and listen and, if so moved, you can become a voting member.
The last thing that I want to see, should it be adopted, are Technicians and Technologists getting blindsided with the reality that there is a mandatory requirement to be a member of a professional forestry association. It is not for me to say it is good or it is bad. It is my job to inform you of what is going on, stressing its importance…making you aware. Decide if this is right for you or not. Ask questions. Be informed.
They say that the world is run by those who show up. I hope that this applies to you.
